Consulate General of the Slovak Republic

New consulate for Slovakia in a former carriage house on the Upper East Side. The landmarked Beaux-Arts facade was restored while the interiors were thoroughly updated with minimalist detailing and a cool, subtle material palette. The ornamentation of the facade was distilled into a modern idiom - steel arches, monolithic stone floors, soft symmetries. Public and private areas are intertwined to provide a broad range of consular functions, including event spaces, interview rooms, offices and an apartment. Photos by Raimund Koch.
